Company management should:
a. Agree to hire the student for a scheduled period of time-number of hours per week and number of weeks worked determined by mutual consent. 300 hours are required for 12 credits.
b. Provide an orientation for the student to the company’'s work environment.
c. Give the student assignments in one department, as a floater in several departments, or as a management trainee.
d. Assign a variety of tasks for the student to perform.
e. Provide guidance and supervision so that the student can assess progress and be given increasing responsibility.
f. Provide opportunity for the student to work closely with employees and to perform some of their tasks.
g. Provide (as required in the workbook assignments) opportunity to learn about procedures and activities in the company including: operations, human resources, sales promotion, finance and control.
h. Schedule an exit interview with the student to review the student’'s portfolio (student will provide evaluation form) and review the student’'s on-the-job performance evaluation. This evaluation form will be emailed to supervisor during the student's internship.
i. Complete and submit the evaluation of student’'s job performance, aptitude and attitude and discuss this evaluation with student at the end of their internship.
Companies that agree to participate in the Program have no obligation to:
1. Hire a student without a personal interview.
2. Pay the student for work performed unless the company desires to do so.
3. Offer the student employment beyond the period required for participation in the Field Experience.
If at any time during the internship the student does not fulfill professional obligations to the employing company, or if it becomes impossible for the employing company to adequately assist the student to meet objectives, the student will be terminated from the experience. The decision for such a termination shall be made by mutual agreement of the employing company and the university supervisor.
